About

Recently, I have spent a lot of time in my living room staring at my home entertainment center. Usually I am watching something on the TV, playing something on the Nintendo Switch, or listening to music on the sound bar. Our home entertainment center is quite huge and definitely the centerpiece of our whole main floor of our townhome. It was once beautifully decorated with just our collection of books, vinyls, and knick-knacks we collected in our travels. Now, it has slowly turned into a collection of junk that never found a home in our place. With all of this time sitting in my living room I have decided it needs a little makeover.

There are a lot of unused cabinets of storage inside our entertainment center. I can rehome the clutter on top into the cabinets below. Ideally, I would just get rid of most of the stuff, but just hiding it away is obviously easier… We’ll see how my mood is when I actually tackle this project. The worst part about our home entertainment certain is all of the cords tangled throughout. We had a record player, speakers, soundbar, multiple gaming devices, and a candle warmer all plugged in. I think at first we might have had most of these things hidden, but as we have unplugged and plugged things over time the cords have become more visible. Here are some of the ideas I am going to try to execute on this multi-day project.

First I am going to try and bind the long cords together. I think this will really change the overall look into much more put-together. I am going to look for cheap packaging supplies (or order some if I can’t find any) to organize the cords. I am looking for things like zip ties, twine, or adhesive labels to bind the cords together. I even am looking into getting ribbon to easily separate which cord belongs to which device. This will make it easier to unplug the right thing when I want to instead of feeling around to see which cord belongs to which device.

Once everything is bound separately, I am going to order clear lid boxes from a packaging supplies company. I can cut holes in the side and slide the cords right through. This keeps them all neat behind the home entertainment center, but has a clear lid so I can easily look down and see which cord I need to unplug. This also keeps pets from getting into cords because they are contained inside the boxes.
